Etowah County Criminal Defense – Electronic Filing Returns for Criminal Cases

by William L. Pfeifer, Jr. on January 27, 2014

in Criminal Procedure

Etowah County Presiding Circuit Judge Wm. Allen Millican issued an order earlier this month permitting attorneys to use electronic filing for motions, documents, and orders in criminal cases. While most courts in the State of Alabama have been permitting this for some time, the Etowah County Circuit Court in July of 2011 ordered that electronic filing would not be permitted in criminal divisions of the Etowah County court system. In an order dated January 3, 2014, Presiding Judge Millican rescinded the previous order so that attorneys may now e-file documents in criminal cases the same as they can in civil cases. Judge Millican’s order will improve the efficiency of the Etowah County court system and will provide a significant benefit to attorneys who handle cases there.
